When Tooth Extraction Is Necessary
We may recommend removing a tooth too decayed, infected, or damaged to be repaired with a dental restoration, such as a filling. Extraction could also be necessary to prevent wisdom tooth impaction, as erupting wisdom teeth could lead to misalignment, damaged teeth, infection, and other complications. We may also suggest removing a tooth to make room for orthodontic treatment or to prepare your smile for dentures or dental implants. For others, extraction could be necessary to aid in improving bite balance and chewing function, or to address primary teeth that have failed to fall out as they should.
The Extraction Process
Our team can provide sensation to keep you or your family member comfortable as we gently remove the tooth with a pair of forceps. The procedure will occur in our office, no need to head to another office. We then suture the area closed and provide detailed aftercare instructions. Most people return to normal activities after only a day or two of rest. In some cases, the treatment could take as little as 30 minutes. While wisdom teeth may not need replacement, if we remove a tooth due to decay or infection, we could discuss replacement with a lifelike and durable dental implant.
